Refractory gunning machine for cement plant

Refractory gunning machine uses high-pressure spraying of refractory materials to quickly repair the refractory layer of high-temperature components such as kiln linings, preheaters, and coolers. Their core advantages lie in efficient repair, reduced downtime, and lower labor intensity. They are particularly suitable for partial or overall refractory layer maintenance of equipment such as rotary kilns, decomposition furnaces, and grate coolers in cement plants.

Today, our factory shipped a refractory gunning machine. The customer primarily uses it in a cement plant. The refractory gunning machine features a compact design and is equipped with an adjustable support or robotic arm, adapting to the complex spaces of a cement plant (such as the top of the preheater and the side walls of the quencher).

The GZ-3ER refractory gunning machine is suitable for repairing the refractory lining in high-temperature areas such as the kiln inlet, kiln tail, burners, and tertiary air ducts of a cement plant. It can handle easily worn parts such as pulverized coal injection pipes, kiln inlet guardrails, and kiln tail ramps. It supports hot repair (no need to stop the kiln for cooling), reducing production interruptions, such as directly repairing kiln lining cracks or spalling while the rotary kiln is running.

Why is refractory gunning machine crucial in a cement plant?
Cement production involves extremely high temperatures (up to 1450°C in the kiln) and abrasive materials. The refractory lining is the protective “inner skin” of key equipment. A gunning machine is vital for:
Emergency Repairs: Quickly patching up localized damage in the kiln, preheater, or cooler without a full shutdown.
Preventive Maintenance: Applying a thin protective coating during short maintenance stops to extend the life of the existing lining.
Full Lining Installation: While monolithic linings are often cast, some sections can be gunned for efficiency.
Profile Correction: Restoring the ideal internal profile of a kiln or duct that has been worn unevenly.
Minimizing Downtime: Gunning is significantly faster than manual bricklaying or casting, getting the plant back online sooner.

How the gunning process works (step-by-step):
1. Surface Preparation: The area to be lined is thoroughly cleaned of all loose material, dust, and old refractory. This is often done by sandblasting or mechanical scaling.
2. Material Handling: The dry refractory gunning mix is transported to the machine’s hopper, or the wet mix is prepared in a pan mixer.
3. Transportation: The machine feeds the material into a hose line.
4. Mixing & Acceleration:
Dry Process: Material is air-conveyed. Water is added via a ring at the nozzle.
Wet Process: Pre-mixed material is pumped. Compressed air is added at the nozzle.
5. Application: The operator directs the nozzle towards the surface, maintaining the correct distance (typically 0.8 – 1.5 meters) and angle (~90 degrees) for optimal compaction and minimal rebound.
6. Curing: After application, the newly gunned lining must be cured correctly, often with a mist of water, to ensure it develops its full strength.
